This weekend is one of my favorites of the whole year. Whether you have children in school or not, Labor Day weekend marks the end of summer and the beginning of fall. For many of us schedules change, the new program year begins. It’s a little bit like January. A fresh start. A new year. I love a fresh start. Now is the time to take a moment and reflect. What do you want to achieve this year? This weekend is one of my favorites of the whole year. Whether you have children in school or not, Labor Day weekend marks the end of summer and the beginning of fall. For many of us schedules change, the new program year begins. It’s a little bit like January. A fresh start. A new year.
I love a fresh start. Now is the time to take a moment and reflect. What do you want to achieve this year? Is it your season to focus on health, on your career, on personal growth? Might seem a little grim, but every September is one closer to your last. That’s the way time works. Next September, when you reflect back on this year, what do you want to have accomplished? I am a strong believer in listening to the messages that seem to play on repeat in our lives. I call them Spirit nudges. Those times you notice something is recurring in your life. This summer I had a Spirit nudge when my mother gave me the birthday card in the picture below. Now the thing about my mom is that she takes cards pretty seriously. You know, she reads the text underlining the key words so when you get the card you know she didn’t just grab it off the rack at the grocery store. This year the card cover says “Sugar & Spice and a Healthy Dose of Bad-Ass.” The inside says “This is your year to show them what you are made of” and for good measure plays the Miranda Lambert song. It stood out because it wasn’t mom’s typical wordy, schmaltzy card. The card made me remember a good friend had given me a copy of Jen Sincero’s book You are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life. I dug it off the things I want to get around to finding time to read shelf and threw it in my travel bag when I left for Germany. To make a long story short, the book is fabulous. The Spirit knew now was the time to nudge me to read it. This is going to be a year of transitions for me. Baby girl #4 is a senior. We are a year away from an empty nest. This book reminded me of several dreams I have kind of left simmering on the back burner. Now it’s September. It’s a new year. Time to set some new goals. I try really hard to practice what I preach, so I have worked with my coach to outline a plan to turn up the burners a bit and put myself out there. I find it makes a world of difference when I share my goals with a coach. When my coach asks the questions that drill down to the thing I really want to do, I set a better goal. When I know my coach is going to ask me in our next session “So did you…,” I am going to make sure I can answer. If you think a coach could make a difference in your life, I’d love to talk to you about how I might be able to help. Just let me know. Whatever you do, take advantage of the fresh start. Buy a book. Set a goal. Connect with me on social media so I can keep nudging. Let’s get going on this year. It’s going to be awesome! Because you’re worth it! Heidi Leave a Reply. |
